Amid bamboos this mossy path unto the river brings.
The cottage eaves o'er flowers below extend their shading wings.
Since last I came, some sixty years their rapid flight have ta'en.
As I return the vernal spring bursts into bloom again.
Upon my staff I lean, and gaze upon yon orphan stone.
Upon this sandbank empty out my wine flask, all alone.
The distant seagulls float along upon the placid tide.
The swallows light against the wind on slanting pinions glide.
Though many obstacles beset this dreary Way below,
And that my life, too, has its bounds, alas! too well I know,
Yet I awake; and then again am ravished in my mind:
And where the Spirit taketh me, 'tis there my home I find.
