Backed on the outer Gateway here is the house I made;
Which with their snowy pennons feathery rushes shade.
Rivers attendant running slow by the trodden road,
Over the country verdant peers out my slight abode.
Groves of shady banyans shut out the burning sun,
Rustling amid their leaflets breezes whispering run.
Bamboos, gigantic growing, high-sailing clouds have kissed.
Their tips are dew-pearled, dropping tears of the veiling mist.
Crows that may pause to settle remain their young to rear,
Twittering swallows building dwellings from year to year.
"Mansion of Yang Hsiung ancient"—neighbors it wilfully call—
Jest that my easy nature cares not to correct at all.

"Mansion of Yang Hsiung ancient"—neighbors it wilfully call— Jest that my easy nature cares not to correct at all. In the back of the city my reed roofed cottage is built; By the riverside path it e'er looks on the green field. The leaves of alders rift the sun and sing in the breeze; The dews drip down the bamboos' tips with misty wreaths. The birds with their fledgelings roost there for a rest, The churring swallows frequent to make a new nest. Some others mistake to compare here to Yang Xiong's house; I'm too lazy to write "Excuse" to stop their mouth. |
