Upon this Ship of Pleasure are
Dark arching eyebrows, gleaming smiles.
Soft flutes and pan-pipes warbling wiles
To Dreamland waft us far.
Amid the zephyr's wanton sighs
The spars of ivory sway.
How slowly silken tow-ropes draw
Our vessel gliding past the shore,
Yet views the lingering day.
$(Still unafraid, our course so slow,)$
The gaping fish light ripples blow,
And rock the dancers' fans above
Reflected on the wave below.
The skimming swallow brush adown
Sweet blossoms from the nautch girls' hair
To drop upon the matting, where
Light spring the steps of Love.
Had we no skiff that to and fro
To bring supplies with oars could row,
Whence, like a fountain, forth could flow
Such stream of nectar rare?
