Last year at Ching-nan city the plum bloom looked like snow.
The snow this year at Chi-peh recalls that bloom again.
Each makes me sigh that man's affairs so fluctuate to and fro:
Yet glad that New Year's flowers renew the year that died in pain
Here, by the Wall, the soldiers' songs disturb me all the night.
Yon sky above the Capital is red with flaring light.
Towards the Sun of Chang-an so distant I adore.
Ah! might I on its Southern Hill a votive offering pour!
