In a golden cup clear wine,
The best that money can buy:
Rare cates in a bowl of jade,
That a myriad cash supply....
Yet idle stands the cup;
The chopsticks I throw by.
I have no list to sup.
Taking my sword, I stare
Around; and swells my breast.
Over the stream I'd fare...
Wer't not by ice compressed.
I'd climb o'er T'ai-shan high...
But snow shuts off the sky.
I wander forth to fish,
To sit by banks of the stream.
I start on a skiff away,
In sunlit haze to dream.
How hard the Way! How hard the Way!
Where goes each devious path to-day?
On billows borne and driving wind
Some Hour will leave us not behind!
And lo! I hoist for sails the clouds,
And cross the Main that Glamour shrouds.
