You are gone. The river is high at my door.
Cicadas are mute on dew-laden boughs.
This is a moment when thoughts enter deep.
I stand alone for a long while.
... The North Star is nearer to me now than spring,
And couriers from your southland never arrive —
Yet I doubt my dream on the far horizon
That you have found another friend.
You are gone. The river is high at my door. Cicadas are mute on dew-laden boughs. This is a moment when thoughts enter deep. I stand alone for a long while. ... The North Star is nearer to me now than spring, And couriers from your southland never arrive — Yet I doubt my dream on the far horizon That you have found another friend. When you left, the river rose to the balustrade; Now cicadas are mute, the branches covered with dew. I'm again at the balustrade, but the season has changed; At this moment my thoughts, as will always, fly to you. You are far away as the North Star and the spring, And your southbound couriers never come into view. Many times the far horizon enters my dream: Have you found another friend? I hope not true. You have gone, and the waves are level with the railing; The cicadas have stopped; dew covers the branches. I am filled with endless thoughts of you in this season; I stand leaning here and time just passes by. North Dipper and the spring are both far away, While this Nanling posting is lasting a long time. Here at world’s end I often divine my dreams – Surely I’m wrong to construe that you have a new friend! |
