Toward a mist upon the water
Still I wave my hand and sob,
For the flying bird is lost in space
Beyond a desolate green mountain ...
But now the long river, the far lone sail,
The five lakes, gleam like spring in the sunset;
And down an island white with duckweed
Comes the quiet of communion.
Toward a mist upon the water Still I wave my hand and sob, For the flying bird is lost in space Beyond a desolate green mountain ... But now the long river, the far lone sail, The five lakes, gleam like spring in the sunset; And down an island white with duckweed Comes the quiet of communion. Across misty waters I gaze after you, And tears wet the kerchief that waves you farewell. Ah! where go the birds that fly past out of view? All empty before me the green mountains swell. One sail fades away down the Yangtze's long stream. The sunset with Spring dyes the face of the lake. Who sadly beholds on the islets the gleam Of white bridal flowers that fond longings awake? Across misty waters I gaze after you, And tears wet the kerchief that waves you farewell. Ah! where go the birds that fly past out of view? All empty before me the green mountains swell. One sail fades away down the Yangtze's long stream. The sunset with Spring dyes the face of the lake. Who sadly beholds on the islets the gleam Of white bridal flowers that fond longings awake? A vast expanse of misty water lying ahead, I find myself in tears, waving farewell to you. Off you go like a flying bird to places remote, While I all alone face a mountain blue. In a boat sailing far down the Long River, Over the Five Lakes you'll enjoy the evening glow. But who can imagine on the white duckweed islet I'll be missing you, deep in sorrow. |
