I am far from the clouds of Sung Mountain, a long way from trees in Ch'in;
And I send to you a message carried by two carp:
—Absent this autumn from the Prince's garden,
There's a poet at Mao-ling sick in the rain.
Long parted, your grief floats with clouds, mine grows like trees. Two carp from afar have brought your message to me. Ask not of the old guest of the Liang Garden, please. In this autumn rain, I am the sick refugee. The clouds of Mount Song and the trees of Qin have long existed apart; A pair of carp – letter from you – covers the great distance between. But do not ask about the former guest in your noble gardens; In the autumn rain by the Mao tomb the poet is lying ill. |
