Chu-kê's prestige transcends the earth;
There is only reverence for his face;
Yet his will, among the Three Kingdoms at war,
Was only as one feather against a flaming sky.
He was brother of men like Yi and Lü
And in time would have surpassed the greatest of all statesmen.
Though he knew there was no hope for the House of Han,
Yet he wielded his mind for it, yielded his life.
The fame of Chuko Liang Extends down Space and Time. Behold that model's portrait, Majestic, tall, sublime! When into hostile factions In three the country split, He ever schemed with patience The sundered parts to knit. Above the mist of ages Who floats as light as he? To I-yin and to Lu-shang A brother might he be. Had his control succeeded Surpassing Hsiao or Tsao: But ah! the Hans' dominion Was slipping from their brow. He was almost on a par with Yi and Lu in his grand deeds, And beat Xiao and Cao in leading the army to easeful feats. Yet Fortune's wheel rolled and Han could not last its duration, Though he had kept his vow and fought to death with devotion! |
