FROM the high pavilions the guests have all gone; In the small gardens dishevelled blossoms drop to the ground Scattered unevenly they lie across the crooked paths, Far in the distance they dance in the setting sun. They raise sad thoughts but I dare not brush them away I strain my eyes after them, but they are determined to go. My heart (like theirs) yearns for the spring (which is about to die) And I am left with a garment moistened with tears.
Gone is the guest from the Chamber of Rank, And petals, confused in my little garden, Zigzagging down my crooked path, Escort like dancers the setting sun. Oh, how can I bear to sweep them away? To a sad-eyed watcher they never return. Heart's fragrance is spent with the ending of spring And nothing left but a tear-stained robe.

The guests are all gone from that mansion so high, Around yon small garden the falling flowers fly. Confusedly whirled down the winding road there With flashes of light sent athwart the clear air. We cannot sweep them up, my broken heart-string! Yet would I return, though mine eyes are pierced through. I lavished the sweets of my heart on the Spring; But left me the tears that my raiment bedew.

The guests are gone from the pavilion high, In the small garden flowers are whirling around. Along the winding path the patals lie; To greet the setting sun, they drift up from the ground. Heartbroken, I cannot bear to sweep them away; From my eager eyes, spring soon disappears. I pine with its passing, heart's desire lost for aye; Nothing is left but a robe stained with tears.
She has gone at last from the high pavilion; In the small garden blossoms fly in confusion, Join the winding path in shapeless profusion, See off the slanting sun a long way away. Stricken with grief I can't bear to sweep them aside; I look searchingly in case she still returns. Come the spring, my fragrant heart is spent; All that remains is clothing soaked with tears.
