FROM the Jade Tower half-way up to heaven floats the sound of songs to the shêng,
The gay laughter of the palace girls comes down to us on the wind.
The Hall of the Moon casts its shadow and one hears the evening clepsydra;
The crystal blind is rolled up and we seem to be quite close to the Milky Way.
High above, from a jade chamber, songs float half-way to heaven, The palace-girls' gay voices are mingled with the wind — But now they are still, and you hear a water-clock drip in the Court of the Moon.... They have opened the curtain wide, they are facing the River of Stars. |
