IDLY I sit in grief for myself and in grief for you,
How much time is a hundred years?
Têng Yu, childless, understood his fate;
P'an Yüeh, mouring for his wife, still wrote poems to
her.
To share a grave's darkness where is my hope?
In another life to meet again is yet harder to expect.
Only for the whole night my eyes are ever open
To requite you for a lifetime of knitted brows.
