Across the water I can glimpse the mulberry trees—
How magnificent, this Li-yang River!
Fascinated by the beckoning scenery, I am lured farther
and farther away.
There—a solitary peak wreathed in clouds and mists...
Ah, never shall I see my old friend again!
The river flows peacefully, endlessly onward.
Still I rejoice; his just fame as an administrator spreads
so far and wide
That I sometimes overhear travellers paying him tribute.
