Elegant is the bearing of the fine young man;
He is widely read in the classics and history.
Everyone addresses him as "Professor";
Everyone refers to him as "the scholar."
Yet he hasn't been able to get a government job
And he doesn't know how to handle a hoe.
All winter he shivers in his worn hemp shirt:
"My books have brought me to a pretty pass!"
