This month, when farmers stay indoors to shun
the heat,
Who will drink with me and be merry?
Here I lay out a handful of mountain fruit,
But gathered about the wine jar is no one but me.
Rushes serve in place of a mat;
A plantain leaf will do for a plate.
After I'm drunk, I sit with chin in hand,
And Sumeru seems no bigger than a crossbow
pellet!
