As he leaves for his garrison far away, this proud

Draws his precious knife from its scabbard with a clang!
His hour has struck to repay the Imperial Favour.
Today be thinks lightly of his life.

The barbarians along the frontier are ever at war with us.
Already the border wind has blown in the
coming of autumn.
Our hero, always by temperament ambitious,
Through skill as an archer will achieve the
title of marquis.
