Ten thousand flasks of Hsin-fêng's aged wine
Must have gone down the gullets of Hsien-yang's
young gallants.
Their horses hitched to the willows weeping beside the
tavern,
How boisterously these revelling comrades would toast
each other's health!
II
He starts by becoming an officer in the
Imperial bodyguard;
His first command, to follow General Ho fighting in
Yü-yang.
Everyone knows that life on the frontier is bitter—
Still, if he dies, his chivalrous bones will be fragrant!
III
Alone, he can draw two carved bows at once!
A thousand waves of enemy horsemen cannot daunt him.
Astride his golden saddle, he strings his bow with white-
feathered arrows,
And ping! the plumed shower drops five khan dead!

After a delectable feast in the Han Court,
The Emperor with his officers returns to the Cloud
Terrace, and in council earnestly discusses the
war awards.
Then proceeding to the balcony, bestows upon the
general the seal of marquis.
Thus proudly adorned, the new nobleman struts out of
the Palace of Great Brightness.
