AT the "Red Black" Bridge the wild grasses flower,
At the mouth of the "Black Coat" Lane sets the slanting sun.
Of old times swallows flew before the halls of Wang and Hsieh
Now they enter the houses of the common people.
Grass has run wild now by the Bridge of Red-Birds; And swallows' wings, at sunset, in Blacktail Row Where once they visited great homes, Dip among doorways of the poor. Beside the Chu-chiao Bridge wildflowers thickly grow, Along the Wu-yi Lane the sun is setting low. Where once the swallows knew the mansions of the great, They now to humbler homes would fly to nest and mate. Beside the bridge of Chu-ch’io wild flowers and grasses grow. Along the ancient pathway the evening sunbeams flow. The swallows that once circled round the halls of lordly pride Now twitter round the humble homes these later ages know. By the Bridge of Red Birds rank grasses overgrow; O'er the Street of Mansions the setting sun hangs low. Swallows which skimmed by painted eaves in bygone days Are now dipping among common people's doorways. There beside the Reel Bird Bridge, grasses and flowers growing wild; Across the entrance to Black Clothes Lane, the slanting evening sun. There were stately halls here once but the swallows in front of them Now have ordinary commoners’ homes to fly into instead. |

むかしは王氏や謝氏の座敷前に巣食っていた燕が、
いまはふつうの民家に飛んで入る。
