IN sequestered chamber her thoughts unchecked
Do as the bee does in the hearts of flowers.
Ash lies warm by the crumbling incense-stick,
Her hair spreads cool beneath blue insect-pins.
As night wears on, the lamp-fame gutters low,
Soundly she sleeps in the depths of a little screen.
How sweet to dream of coupled mandarin ducks!
South of the walls they have stopped pounding the blocks.
