THE garrison near Huang-lung, it is said,
Has not been relieved for many a year.
Alas, the same moon that shines on women's chambers
Casts its light on the barracks of the men of Han.
Young women cannot suppress their thoughts of spring,
Nor can their men forget their love.
Where is the brave soldier who has it in him
To capture Lung-ch'êng and achieve victory?
