White gleam the gulls across the darkling tide,
On the green hills the red flowers seem to burn;
Alas! I see another spring has died....
When will it come—the day of my return?
THE river's green; and birds become whiter; The mountain's blue; and flowers seem ablaze. Soon another spring will have gone by; When will the time come for me to return? white birds $mirrored$ 0 in the blue river red flowers blazing on the green slopes I watch this rich procession thinking, it's time I went home Birds the more white, against green stream Blooms burst to flame, against blue hills I glance, the spring is gone again. What day, $(what day,)$ can I go home? The gulls look whiter against the blue river, And the flowers glow against the green of the hills. This spring too will soon be gone: In which year will occur the days of my home-coming? White gleam the gulls across the darkling tide, On the green hills the red flowers seem to burn; Alas! I see another spring has died..... When will it come —the day of my return? White birds over the grey river. Scarlet flowers on the green hills. I watch the Spring go by and wonder If I shall ever return home. |

川の水は、碧玉のよう$に深緑色に澄ん$で、そのために鳥はいっそう際立って白く見える。山は新緑で、そのために花は$いっそう際立って$今にも燃えあがらんばかりに$赤く$見える。今年の春も、こうして見ているうちにも又もや過ぎ去ってゆく。一体いつになったら故郷に帰れるのだろうか。
江碧（かうみどり）にして 鳥（とり）逾（いよいよ）々白（しろ）く 山青（やまあを）くして 花（はな）燃（も）えんと欲（ほっ）す 今春（こんしゅん） 看々（みすみす）又（また）過（す）ぐ 何（いづ）れの日（ひ）か 是（こ）れ帰年（きねん）ならん 江碧にして 鳥逾々白く 山青くして 花燃えんと欲す 今春 看々又過ぐ 何れの日か 是れ帰年ならん |
