A petal falls!—the spring begins to fail,
And my heart saddens with the growing gale.
Come then, ere autumn spoils bestrew the ground,
Do not forget the pass the wine-cup round.
Kingfishers build where man once laughed elate.
And now stone dragons guard his graveyard gate!
Who follows pleasure, he alone is wise;
Why waste our life in deeds of high emprise?
Every fallen petal means so much less of the spring; The wind is carry- ing away many thousand bits just to sadden me. I shall let my eyes feast upon the flowers still left, And shall not grudge my lips the wine, though I know much of it will be harmful. The kingfishers are nesting on the ruined little buildings by the river, A stone unicorn lies near the high tomb outside the Park. Nature means for everyone to enjoy himself with no loss of time, Why then let such superficial matters as rank and office deter me? Two kingfishers mate and nest in The ruined river pavilion. Stone unicorns, male and female, Guard the great tomb near the park. After the laws of their being, All creatures pursue happiness. Why have I let an official Career swerve me from my goal? Every fallen petal diminishes spring so the wind showers down a thousand just to make me sad I'll keep my eyes on the ones that remain and have some wine whether it's good for me or not kingfishers nest in the ruins by the river a stone unicorn lies on its side in the park Nature says, enjoy yourself and don't waste time why worry then about things like rank and office? |

たったひとひらの花が飛んでさえ、春の楽しさにはかげりがさす。ましてや無情の風が数知れぬ花びらを吹き散らすとなれば、まことに人の心を悲しませずにはいない。
が、$それも自然の摂理とあれば仕方が無い$、今はしばらく、散り尽くそうとする花々が眼前に降るのを眺めつつ、度を越えた量の酒が喉を下っても委細かまわぬとしよう。
見れば曲江のほとりのあずまやは荒れ果てて、かわせみが巣をかけており、芙蓉苑の近くにある大きな墓は世話をする人も無く、麒麟の石像が倒されたままになっている。
ものごとの道理をつくづく考えるに、人生とは楽しく愉快に過ごすに限る。はかない世俗の名声のためにこの身を束縛している必要など、どうしてあるものか。
