About to go, I ask at the house next door;
they tell me you're up in the hills,
never come home till the sun is low.
THOUGH you have moved much nearer to town, Mulberries and hemp extend Down the rustic path 000 to new chrysanthemums, But even far on in autumn there are no blossoms. When I knocked at the door, I heard no dog bark; I meant to ask your neighbour on the western side. 'He has gone off to the mountains', they answered: 'When he returns, darkness is often falling'. I tap at the door, but no howling dog greets me; I ask the neighbour on your western side, They inform me you have taken the road to the hills And that you only return each day at sunset. I come to find you moved beyond the town; Through mulberries a wild path leads me down To the fence by which you planted chrysanthemums, Which are not yet in bloom though autumn comes. I hear no dog bark as I knock at the door I ask you neighbours before I end my tour. You go deep into the hills every day, And won't be back until sunset, they say. Although the place you’ve moved to is near the city walls It’s reached by a country path through mulberry and flax. By the fence nearby you’ve planted chrysanthemums – Autumn is here, but they haven’t flowered yet. I knock at the door, but the dog doesn’t bark, So I go and ask in the home to the west of yours. They tell me you have gone off to the mountains And won’t be back as usual till the sun starts to set. |
