THE splendour of Spring slowly, slowly departs─ but
whither?
Once more I face the flowers, and raise my cup.
All day I ask of the flowers, but the flowers make no reply:
For whom do you fade and fell?
For whom do you blossom?
When the light of spring Fades, Whither Does it go? Turning again With my wine cup To the flowers, $(I ask of them:)$ "For whom Do you scatter Your fallen petals, And for whom Do you open wide Your hearts?" Though I beg And entreat them All the day, They answer me Never a word. |
