I fear that the gods delight in keeping lovers apart,
And have purposely delayed the happy date of reunion.
As always, by the Silver River in the azure sky,
She eagerly awaits the time of the golden wind and jade-like dew.
As the water-clock gradually drips away, she has long been looking for him;
The tiny clouds have not yet touched each other—how late is the crossing!
How can she not wish to repay the magpies,
But only lend the spider her skill in weaving silk?
