I climb the cold mountain by a steep path through the rocks,

I halt my cart and look out over the forest of maples in the sunset.
The frosted leaves are more brilliant than any flowers of Spring.
Far up the cold mountain the stony path slopes: Where the white clouds are born there are homes of men. Stop the carriage, sit and enjoy the evening in the maple wood: The frosty leaves are redder than the second month’s flowers. AFTER I climb the chill mountain's steep stone paths, Deep in the white clouds there are homes of men, I stop my carriage, and sit to admire the maple-grove at nightfall, Whose frozen leaves are redder than the flowers of early Spring. |

人気のない晩秋の山を遠くのぼれば、石の多い小道が斜めにずっと続いている。遥か白雲の湧きあがるあたりに、$思いがけず$人の住みかがある。車を停め、夕陽に照り映える楓樹の林の美しさに、われ知らずうっとりと見とれてしまう。霜枯れした楓樹の紅葉は、あの春の盛りに咲き競う花よりも、いっそう鮮やかな真紅の輝きをみせている。
