Stars rest cold by shoals of cloud;
dew spatters round into the plate.
From tree tips fair flowers unfold;
in deserted gardens fading orchids grieve.
The evening sky seems flagged with jade;
on the pool, lotus leaves, huge coins of green bronze.
With annoyance one finds the single dancing cloak too thin,
gradually grows aware of a chill on flowered mats.
Dawn winds—how they sough and sigh!
Blazoned in brightness, the Little Dipper gleams
COLD glint of starlight round the Cloudy Island, Upon the plate the beaded dew-drops fall. Fine flowers are born out of the tips of twigs, Deserted gardens grieve for dying orchids. The night-sky turns to terraces of jade, Leaves in the lotus-pool are big, green coins. Vexed at the thinness of her dancing-gown She feels a chill creep through her flowery mat. A wind wakes sighing just at break of day, The Northern Dipper glitters down the heavens. |
