My lamp-flame flickers feebly in the night.
Through the window comes the patter of the rain
Falling on the broad green plantain leaves.
The early cicadas chirrup and again are silent. The guttering candle goes out, and again flickers Beyond the window—I know there is night rain. The banana-leaves anticipate its sound. An early cricket sings clear, then stops. A lamp flickers out, then flares up again. Outside the window, telling me evening rain's come: a clattering in banana trees. |
