THE widowed wife must dread these weary nights,
The lonely traveller dreams he’s back at home.
Beside the caves insects twist their silk,
Along the wall a lamp lets fall its flowers.
Outside the screens, the moon exhales its light,
Inside the screens, slant shadows of the trees.
The dew flies all round in loveliness,
Adorning even the lotus in its pool.
