THE grass is withered in my native town,
And our farewell makes me perforce dejected.
I have had to go beyond the cold clouds to see you off;
On my return the evening snow greets me.
An orphan, I had to leave home early.
We had to meet late after much calamity;
Now you are gone, I hide my face and I weep.
What this rough world still holds in store none can foretell.
