To perch beside the city wall under yellow clouds
Crows were contemplating.
They were flying home
And on the branches of trees cawing.
The woman of the Guanzhong Plain
Was weaving brocade on her loom.
And across the green misty window screen
She was speaking.
She stopped the shuttle in melancholy,
Thinking of her man,
And shedding tears all over her face
As she was alone in her chamber.
BY the city wall at dusk a crow had alighted; It cawed again, again, as if it had flown home. At her loom a Ch'in-ch'uan girl was weaving: Through her gauze window she could not help but hear $(The bird, which sounded like)$ someone talking. She stopped her shuttle, thinking of her absent lover; Alone in her chamber, her tears fell like rain in torrents. In the twilight of yellow clouds The crows seek their nests by the city wall. The crows are flying home, cawing— Cawing to one another in the tree-tops. $(Lo,)$ the maid of Chin-chuan at her loom Weaving brocade,$(—for whom, I wonder?)$ She murmurs softly to herself Behind the blue mist of gauze curtain. She stops her shuttle, and broods sadly, Remembering him who is far away— She must lie alone in her bower at night, And her tears fall like rain. |

黄色く染まったダ雲がたなびく城璧のあたり、鳥がねぐらにつこうとして、飛び帰ってきてカフカアと木の枝の上で鳴いている。「京に舎あり」という都のかたほとり、機にのぼって錦を織っていた一人の女がある。碧い紗のカーテンが透けてまるで煙のように見える窓ごしに、女は何かひとりごとをいっていたが、急に梭を動かす手をとめて、ふさぎこんで遠くにいる夫のことを思うのだった。やがて、たったひとり、人気のない部屋にうつぶすと、せきかねた涙があとからあとから出てきて雨のようにとめどがなかった。
