In autumn the sand gleams white
on the far shore
the sunset reddens
the mountain ranges
hidden fish
break water
returning birds
battle the winds
the pounding of laundry echoes from each house
the sound of the woodcutter's axe is everywhere
I can do nothing to stop
the ministry of Lady Frost
her white blanket reminds me
how far I am
from the palaces of younger days.
The autumn sands are white on the far shore, The glow of evening reddens the mountain range. Submerged scales push startled ripples, Returning wings veer with the high wind. The pounding of washing blocks echoes from house to house, Woodcutters' voices sing the same tune. The frost flies down in the care of the Dark Maid, But the blanket she gives parts me from the Southern Palace. |
