How well they know my study's low and small—
The swallows from the riverside find reason to visit me often
Carrying mud to spot and spoil $(my)$ lute and books,
$(And)$ trailing a flight of gnats that strike $(my)$ face.
Aware my working room is thatched and humble, The river swallows come and go regardless: Mud from their beaks on books, on lute their droppings, Intent on midge pursuit they almost brush me! Before you praise Spring's advent note What capers the mad wind may cut: To cast the flowers to the waves And overturn the fishing boat. |
