The music of Chengtu goes on unceasing;
Half of it is blown through the river and half into the clouds,
Only in heaven can such tunes be heard;
low often can they be heard among us mortals?
"Pipes and strings are played in profusion daily in the City of Brocade, Half of the music is blown to the river, and half rises to the clouds." Such fine melody is fit to be played only in heaven, Who can expect to hear it in this world many times? IN the City of Brocade the lutes and the pipes all day make riot; Half of the music is lost in the river breezes, and half in the clouds. But this song should only belong to heaven; Among mortals how seldom can it be heard! The Brocade strings and reeds weave daily music, Half of it with the clouds, half river breezes: For music such as this was meant for Heaven, How many times is Man allowed to hear it? |

錦官城の管絃のしらべは、毎日々々入りみだれてひびきわたり、半分は川風に乘って吹きとばされ、半分は雲のなかまで舞いのぼっている。この妙なる曲は、ただただ天上界のものとしか思われない。人間世界ではとても、そんなにたびたび聞くことはできないだろうよ。
錦城（きんじゃう）の絲管（しくわん） 日（ひ）に紛紛（ふんぶん）。 半（なかば）は江風（かうふう）に入（い）り 半（なかば）は雲（くも）に入（はい）る 此（こ）の曲（きょく）、秖（ただ）應（まさ）に天上（てんじゃう）の有（いう）なるべし。 人間（じんきあん） 能（よ）く幾回（いくくわい）が聞（き）くを得（え）ん。 錦城の絲管 日に紛紛。 半は江風に入り 半は雲に入る 此の曲、秖應に天上の有なるべし。 人間 能く幾回が聞くを得ん。 |
