Returning home at midnight, I slip by tigers; The hills are dark, and
the people at home are asleep. To the north the Dippers hang low
above the river; Straight overhead I recognize Venus, shining volu-
minously. I hold a candle in the yard, I am annoyed at seeing two
burning wicks. I listen for the crying gibbons of the gorge, I am
surprised to hear only one. Though white-headed and old, I dance
and sing. Leaning on my stick, I refuse to sleep. But what of it?
