Long hoe, long hoe, handle of white wood, I trust my life to you - you must save me now! No shoots of wild taro where mountain snows drift high; robe so short, pull as I may it will not hide my shins. And so with you I go empty-handed home; the boy grumbles, the girls whine, my four walls are still, Ah-ah, song the second, the song at last breaks free; village lanes for my sake put on the face of pity.
Long hoe, long hoe, handle of white wood, I trust $(my)$ life to you—you must save me now! No shoots of wild taro where mountain snows drift high; robe so short, pull as I may it will not hide my shins. $(And)$ so with you I go empty-handed home; the boy grumbles, the girls whine, $(my)$ four walls are still, Ah-ah, song the second, the song at last breaks free; village lanes for my sake put on the face of pity.
Long hoe, long hoe, with your raw wooden handle, I entrust my life to you, you are my only provider. The yams have no shoots, the mountain snow is deep. I pull down my short coat many times; it won't cover my shins. Today we return empty-handed, you and I; My son groans, my daughter moans, the four walls are quiet. Alas! This is my second song, oh! I begin to sing it loud. My neighbors' faces are distressed on my behalf.
Ny long spade, my long spade, handle so white, On you I depend for a living. Not a sprout to be seen, the wild yams are buried deep, All covered by the snow; and my clothes too short. Simply refuse to be pulled down to cover my knees. Returning with you, but with nothing for food, I hear not a sound in the bouse save moans- Moans of my wife and children, starving. Alas! this, my second song, pouring forth, All my neighbours sink into gloom.
